Pipe End Heating Torches

Preheating Equipment for Stronger, Crack-Free Welds

Preheating brings the weld zone to a controlled starting temperature before the first pass, driving off surface moisture and giving the weld metal a more forgiving thermal environment to solidify in.

Welding cold, thick-walled pipe without bringing the joint up to temperature first invites the very defects a good weld is meant to avoid.

A joint that is too cold when the arc strikes cools unevenly, and that uneven cooling raises the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking and incomplete fusion at the root — problems that surface later as failed radiographs or, worse, in-service leaks. Preheating brings the weld zone to a controlled starting temperature before the first pass, driving off surface moisture and giving the weld metal a more forgiving thermal environment to solidify in.

Heat for coating, too

Pipe end heating torches serve a second purpose beyond welding prep: pipeline coating crews rely on the same controlled heat to dry and warm the pipe surface immediately before the coating material is applied, so it bonds to a clean, moisture-free surface rather than one that will trap contaminants underneath. In both cases, the flame is what does the work — directed evenly around the joint or surface, held at a steady pace, and controlled closely enough that the pipe reaches temperature without overshooting it.

Explore Our Pipe End Heating Torches

Technical Pipeline’s range covers both ends of this job: an Internal Heating Torch that reaches the joint from inside the bore on larger-diameter pipe, and an External Heating Torch that wraps around the outside of the pipe for jobs where internal access isn’t practical. Both are available with manual or automatic ignition, and burner count scales with pipe diameter across the range so heat stays even as pipe size increases.

Internal Heating Torch

Preheats the joint from inside the bore, 30″ to 60″, 3 to 7 burners depending on model.

External Heating Torch

Preheats the joint from outside the pipe, 10″ to 60″, 3 to 10 burners depending on model.
